We talk a lot about our children eating organic food and being healthy, but what about what they wear, sleep on or sleep with? Should it also be made safely and chemical-free? Does it really matter?
The answer is YES!! The process of making conventional cotton actually uses many different harmful chemicals and toxins that don’t leave the cotton once it is made into baby clothes and blankets.
When you wrap your baby in a blanket made with conventional cotton, you’re actually wrapping them in a factory produced, chemical-ridden materials.
The chemicals in conventionally grown cotton can irritate sensitive skin.
Organic cotton is grown without the use of harmful pesticides. To be considered 100% organic, the cotton has to meet a very strict approval process. The process begins from the time the cotton is grown, to how the cotton is transported to the mill, how it is milled, how it is bleached using oxygen based bleach (not chlorine), how the cotton is printed using *Low Impact Dyes, and must also meet a standard of fair working conditions set by the International Labour Organization (ILO).
Babies spend much of their time sleeping, swaddled or wrapped in blankets. Our Organic Collection is made with GOTS certified 100% organic cotton fabric. With your baby’s delicate skin, our organic blankets and bedding offer a safe option.
*Low impact dyes do not contain toxic chemical or mordants, require less rinsing and have a high absorption rate. High absorption rates and a decreased use of rinse water create less wastewater and runoff.
